MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Kenyan military base in southern Somalia’s Lower Juba region came under overnight attack on Wednesday, Goobjoog Radio reported on Thursday, the latest in a string of assaults claimed by insurgents.

Residents in the town of Hosingow, who have spoken to the radio station, described hearing heavy burst of gunfire and explosions after the assault ensued a gun battle that lasted for hours.

Al-Shabaab armed group in Somalia said its fighters were behind the attack but did not say if there were casualties. Local officials and the Kenyan military have not yet commented on the gunfight.
