Minister of Justice for Somalia’s Southwest State Hassan Ibrahim Lugbur was killed in a suicide blast in the town of Baidoa on Friday.
The attack left a number of other people, including Lugbur’s bodyguards and relatives, dead. More than 10 others were wounded, according to local media.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack, claiming to have killed the minister and three of his bodyguards.
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condemned the suicide bombing in Baidoa, saying that such attacks by insurgents will not discourage efforts by the government to strengthen security.
