Somalia’s new deputy Minister of Planning Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali resigned on Tuesday, hours after Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre announced the list of his cabinet.
In a press conference, Mohamed said he was resigning due to a breach of the clan power-sharing system, adding that his clan wanted the position of “full minister” – a privilege it used to enjoy before the return of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to power.
“I want to clarify here that I have resigned from my post as the Deputy
Minister of Planning. The position is not palatable to us as a clan and I can’t represent my clan in it,” Mohamed told journalists.
